The SSC Tuatara, Should Bugatti and Koenigsegg Be Worried?

Have you ever heard of SSC? Probably not, they once produced a car called the Ultimate Aero, and it held a speed record for a while, but that was in 2007. SSC has since been quiet for a while, with a concept Tuatara being released in 2011, with no update after that until now, it’s finally started production. But is this real or are we looking at a concept with no backing?

The Tuatara makes 1,750 horsepower, yes, 1,750. More than a Chiron and substantially more than the Agera RS by Koenigsegg. All these ponies come from a twin-turbo 5.9-liter V8 and it weighs only 2,750 pounds. And it should be able to break that golden 300 mph barrier that so many hypercar companies are gunning for. Not only will it be fast in a straight line, but the Track Mode on the Tuatara lowers the suspension and activates the rear wing, giving it more downforce to stick to the track.

So is it legit? Well, SSC promised the start of production would be in the third quarter of this year, and it’s already started now, so this beast is a real threat to the Chiron and it’s other high-speed competition.
